By Pastor Daniel J Freedman,
Michael was a Seventh-day Adventist, which means he had a loving, growing relationship with Jesus, studying God’s Word – the Holy Bible – to find peace, hope, and the assurance of God’s love and detailed interest in his life. This love helped Michael to become the caring person that he was, reaching out and touching so many of our lives. He and Sharee taught their sons by action and from Scripture that God is a Loving and Forgiving God.
As a Seventh-day Adventist, Michael observed the Biblical Sabbath – the weekly reminder that God was Michael’s Creator and Sustainer. Every heartbeat and every breath was a gift of God.
Michael believed in a great controversy between Christ and Satan and looked forward to the second “advent,” or second coming of Jesus Christ.
On the day Jesus returns the Bible says, “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). This is the day that Michael looked for - when Jesus will come back and bring an end to sin and all the results of it. An end to all pain, suffering, death and dying. Michael’s hope was not in a man or a man’s philosophy. Michael’s hope was in Jesus and Him alone.
