By Pastor Daniel J Freedman,
The "first advent" of Jesus was when he was born as a babe in Bethlehem and He died on the cross 33 years later for the sins of the world. The second coming - or "second advent" - of Jesus takes place when He comes back to take us away from this world of sin and suffering. Jesus Himself said, “Let not your heart be troubled, if you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions. If it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you and if I go and prepare a place I will come again and receive you to myself that where I am there you may be also.”
Jesus promised in His Word, the Bible, that He will return and that at that second advent those who have died in Him "will rise... and shall always be with the Lord." I Thessalonians 4:16-17.
We all know that death on this earth comes to every person, and it hurts. Yet in the midst of this drak grief and loss, the Good News is that Jesus Christ loves us, paid the penalty for our sins, entered a clammy tomb, and was raised to life, thus conquering death and the grave. If we trust His victory, we can beat death too. He promised that those who respond to His love, repent of their sins, and trust in His grace, "I will raise him up at the last day" (John 6:44).
His promise is for you. Today. What a beautiful morning that will be!
