Death is a "Sleep"

Scripture teaches that people are not immortal. God alone is immortal (1 Timothy 6:16).  After Jesus resurrects His people at the Second Coming, “this mortal” will “put on immortality.” (1 Corinthians 15:54).

In the Bible, death is called “sleep”  (Psalm 13:3, Daniel 12:2) and clearly states that “the dead know nothing” and there is no knowledge or wisdom in the grave (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10).   The dead do not praise the Lord (Psalm 115:17). They “sleep” silently, without knowledge of any kind.  Jesus died and arose three days later, and because of His resurrection we have hope.

One of these days our Savior will return to earth in power and great glory (Matthew 24:30-31), and when He does, “the dead will rise first” and “we shall always be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).  Long ago Jesus promised those who respond to His love, repent of their sins, and trust in His grace, “I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:44).  His promise is for you!
